Sao Vicente island in Cape Verde is preparing for the arrival of increased tourists in 2010 with some interesting developments now taking shape. December 10th saw the opening of the new Ponta D'Agua commercial centre located next to the new marina in the bay of Mindelo. This luxurious development consists of two new restaurants, a branded Jonnie Walker whisky, clothes shops, beauty treatment rooms as well as a swimming pool clothes and pool bar. The development is also hosting a number of open air night time music shows for visitors. December also saw the start of work on the prestigious Fortim Mindelo project. The development is owned by a Norwegian Investment group and will host Cape Verde's first five star Nikki Beach hotel and casino. This project has already sold out its million euro villas and luxury apartments and looks set to complete in 2011. Finally, Sao Vicente's airport completed its array of tests for its new international airport on December 6th and flights are expected to begin in early 2010. This will bring a welcomed boost to the local economy which has been suffering during the world economic crisis.
